It is Thursday night and NAMM 2019 is in full gear… There was lot going on all over the place from memorials, panels, and of course live music throughout the day and well into the evening… For MAentGlobal it is all about supporting the Gibson’s rise from some lean years and the promise for a positive future by attending the NAMM JAM at City National Grove of Anaheim.

Being a Gibson/Epiphone owner I was particularly happy to be invited to this event, for that reason alone would have been enough, but knowing that the iconic Gibson icons Billy Gibbons, Nancy Wilson, Peter Frampton, Robby Krieger and the new Epiphone signature artist, Jared James Nichols would be performing was why I requested this show over all others.

The night was not without its’ pleasant surprises… Lets start with all the media being treated to an excellent Mexican and American dinner before the show, after a long rushed day at the Anaheim Convention Center this was more than a pleasant surprise. After visiting and reconnecting with artist and fellow media the evening’s MC Jeff Garlin, took the stage. After a few minutes of his comic style (his knowledge of Gibson and guitars in general was awe inspiring) the new and thoroughly optimistic President and CEO James “JC” Curleigh took the stage and made clear the new direction of Gibson was made for the long run.

All in attendance applauded and cheered, but let's be honest, the music was what we were waiting for and JD knew this and applauded all in attendance and left the stage and the “house band” comprised of Jimmy Vivino, Kenny Aronoff, Darryl Jones, and Jeff Young took their places on stage ready to rock the house. Throughout the evening these players came and went, some to help out a solo artist and also to enhance the bands. All great artists in their own right, and sure to be elevated to all time great Gibson/Epiphone artists sometime in the future Emily Wolfe, Black Pistol Fire, Cam, Toby Lee, and Lauren Ruth Ward hit the stage individually and during the amazing encore that would feature nearly every artist that performed.

The young and amazing Toby Lee joined the house band and ripped it up, following the band as if he was a 20-year touring veteran of the stage. Emily Wolfe took the stage and showed that a hollow body Epi can drop with the best of them. Black Pistol Fire could not have been anymore energetic if they all drank a particular energy drink and sprouted wings. Lauren Ruth Ward shared the stage with celebrated Doors guitarist Robby Krieger and would have made the iconic Jim Morrison proud.

As for the legends… Really nothing to be said other than they were legendary, playing like legends, singing like legends, entertaining like legends and representing over 50 years of legendary Gibson guitars. From Krieger’s and Gibbon’s SG, Frampton’s “Do You Feel” lost Les Paul and Wilson’s acoustic. The crowd sang, the crowd cheered and the media clamored over each other to get the perfect shot of these legendary icons.
